This is how you do it! This is how you launch an album, recently local Indie band The Plastics held the launch party for their debut album “Shark”. The launch however was more than just a party held at Assembly here in Cape Town, but rather an all out guerilla marketing campaign, which saw slick design, intelligence in idea and perfect execution.
Click after the hop, to see find out more from the campaign and to win a copy of their CD.
The campaign started out as a nothing more than a few chalk stencils, which starting popping up all over CPT a few weeks back:
The next step was an all out bombardment of flyer’s (some 8000 flyer’s were handed out) ,posters and stickers. As well as digital advertising on Facebook and Twitter which saw people changing their profile pictures to those of sharks.
Once all the initial marketing was in place, it was time to set the venue up for some major Shark mayhem, and the final product was fun and definitely got the desired effect.
As for the music, well I gotta say I was impressed straight away. It is well produced by the talented Gordon Raphael (of The Strokes) and the music styles remain similar. Their Influence from The Strokes and The Arctic Monkeys is evident, yet they produce something new with added layers and inventiveness, such as the inclusion of the violins and the cello.
The style is easy going, yet upbeat, making for a very enjoyable listen and one which I would definitely recommend.
Credits for the project include:
Art direction and design: Lauren Waller Ideas: Lauren Waller, Jade Scully, the band (Pascal Righini, Sasha Righini, Arjuna Kohlstock and Karl Rohloff), and Jeremy Moyle.
Event décor made by (same as above and friends)
Event / Décor photography by Adriaan Louw (more of these photos can be seen on the assembly website, or on The Plastics facebook page)
